New Dimensions’ IOP for PTSD Can Help!

Trauma can happen to anyone. In fact, current estimates are that around 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some form of trauma in their lives. While most of the time we are able to overcome the impacts of trauma, there are times when trauma can get “frozen in time” in our brains and bodies. The result of this is called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). People with PTSD may experience symptoms such as nightmares, severe anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and flashbacks. PTSD, if left untreated, can have life-long effects on a person’s ability to function. Fortunately, there is help. Therapy can help you overcome the impacts of PTSD and help you learn to overcome your anxiety and depression. For most people, individual therapy, medication, or a combination of both can help alleviate the symptoms of PTSD. There are times, however, when you may need more help. This is where an IOP for mental health may be needed.

An IOP for PTSD is often helpful when:
  • Weekly individual therapy is not enough.
  • Your symptoms of PTSD are not getting better.
  • You need more intensive treatment.
  • You need more support.
  • You need more active medication management.
  • You are beginning to have panic attacks or constant anxiety.
  • You are becoming increasingly isolated and avoidant of stressful situations.
  • You are struggling with suicidal thoughts.
  • You are having difficulty functioning at work, home, or school.
What to Expect

The intensive outpatient programs at New Dimensions are 5 days per week for approximately 3 hours per day. The program is designed to help you work through the underlying trauma and then learn the tools you need to develop a healthier happier life. On average, most individuals attend the program for about 30 days, but this may vary based on your individual circumstances. While enrolled in our Houston behavioral health programs, you will work with both therapists and a psychiatrist.
