The year 2020 has been a strange year. Many of us have spent the year waiting for something. Some of us are waiting to be laid off, while others are waiting to be called back to work. Some are waiting to return to work at the office, while others are waiting for their unemployment checks to arrive. Some are waiting to be evicted from their homes while others are waiting to be able to leave their homes to do normal activities. Some are waiting to see family or friends while others are waiting to start the process of grieving the loss of friends or family members. Some are waiting for school to start while others are waiting for sports venues to re-open. Some are waiting for a vaccine for the coronavirus while others are waiting to recover from the virus. We are all waiting for something. I think that most of all, we are waiting for a sense of security and a return to some sense of normalcy. Unfortunately, none of us can predict when that may occur. So, we are all left to find some way of managing the stress and uncertainty while we wait.
While there are many things about the virus that is out of our control, there are some things that you don’t have to wait for. For example, you don’t have to wait to take better care of yourself. You don’t have to wait to eat better or to exercise. You don’t have to wait to be kind to others. You don’t have to wait to be loving and forgiving to those that you care about. You don’t have to wait to reach out to old friends. You don’t have to wait to learn new skills or develop new hobbies. You don’t have to wait to be the best possible version of yourself.
So, while we wait on the return to normalcy, let’s use this time to take charge of those things about our own lives that we can control. Let’s hope that we all emerge from 2020 with new wisdom, courage, resiliency, kindness, and strength.
