Residential Treatment Centers in Houston and Surrounding Areas

Oct 29, 2019 | Substance Abuse

As a community service, we have listed below some of the Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers in Houston and surrounding areas. Some of these facilities provide Inpatient Detox while others specialize in Residential Treatment. If you are looking for Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehab and need inpatient or residential treatment, these facilities may be able to help. Some of these Substance Abuse Treatment Programs work only with men or women, while others work with both. Some programs work with both Adolescents and Adults, while others work with only specialized populations. Some of the programs are state-funded while others are private facilities.  We recommend that you contact the facilities or visit their websites to ensure that they offer the type of services that you are seeking. The list below is not intended to be an endorsement of any facility, but instead is simply a starting place to begin your search for Inpatient Rehab or Residential Treatment in the greater Houston area.

When looking for Drug or Alcohol Rehab in Houston it is useful to understand the types of counseling services that are offered in Houston and the way that mental health and substance abuse treatment is typically provided in the area. The basic mental health treatment options in Houston, Galveston, Katy, League City, The Woodlands, Cypress, Sugar Land, Richmond, Friendswood, Baytown, Pasadena, Kingwood, Spring, Conroe, and surrounding areas are:

  • Detox
  • Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab
  • Residential Alcohol and Drug Treatment
  • Partial Hospitalization
  • Intensive Outpatient Treatment
  • Outpatient Psychotherapy
  • Medication Management
  • Psychiatric Hospital
When to choose Detox

If you are having withdrawal symptoms, it is important to get evaluated for detox. While some people can detox successfully on an outpatient basis, others need to be medically monitored to ensure that they remain safe while withdrawing from alcohol or drugs. The staff at New Dimensions can help you determine the appropriate steps to take if you are trying to detox from alcohol or drugs. It is also helpful to remember that detox should be combined with substance abuse treatment so that you can develop the tools you need to create lasting sobriety.

When to choose Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab

Many people can get clean and sober by participating in an Intensive Outpatient Program such as the one provided by New Dimensions Day Treatment Centers. Others, on the other hand, need to go, inpatient, in order to break the cycle of addiction. If you have been unable to get clean and sober in an outpatient setting, then Inpatient Alcohol and Drug Rehab is the appropriate choice. Inpatient drug and alcohol treatment typically lasts for 30 days or less.

When to choose Residential Alcohol and Drug Treatment

If you have gone through inpatient treatment and still been unable to stay clean and sober, then a residential drug and alcohol program may be the correct choice. These programs are typically 90 days or longer and allow an extended period of time to break the addiction cycle.

When to choose Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitalization

If someone is in immediate danger of hurting themselves or others or is actively psychotic and unable to function, inpatient psychiatric hospitalization is probably the place to start. Psychiatric Hospitalization requires a person to stay within the facility so that they can be monitored 24 hours per day. During this time, they will work with therapists, nursing staff, and a psychiatrist to help them stabilize in the shortest amount of time possible. While there are some treatment programs (such as Menninger’s) that offer specialized treatment programs, most psychiatric hospitals focus primarily on crisis stabilization. As a result, most people admitted into a mental hospital stay on average between 3 to 5 days.

When to choose Outpatient Therapy

If you are looking for a therapist to help you or your family work through emotional, behavioral, or relationship problems, then individual, marital, or family therapy is probably the place that you should start. This therapy is typically conducted once per week and is most appropriate for individuals and families that need a safe place to help them heal and grow emotionally. You can find a list of therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed professional counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, and licensed social workers in the Houston area at www.therapistnearme.com or you can look through the list of therapists that we have in our Community Resource Books.

When to choose Medication Management

If you are looking for someone to prescribe psychiatric medications or monitor the medications that you are currently taking, then a psychiatrist is a great place to start. It is important to remember, that most psychiatrists focus on medication management only. So, if you are also wanting to talk through the problems that you are having, it is helpful to combine medication management with outpatient therapy.

When to choose Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)

If someone is in crisis but does not meet the criteria for an inpatient hospitalization, then a PHP may be the appropriate choice. One of the advantages of Partial Hospitalization Programs is that they allow you to remain at home while receiving intensive treatment. While in a PHP, you will work with therapists and psychiatrists to help you work through emotional, behavioral, or substance abuse problems. The length of treatment varies based on the severity of the crisis.

When to choose Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs (IOP)

Intensive Outpatient Programs offer a less intensive treatment option to PHPs.While in an IOP you will work with therapists to help you work through emotional, behavioral, or substance abuse issues. The length of treatment is frequently around 30 days.

Not All PHPs and IOPs are alike

Some PHPs and IOPs focus specifically on substance abuse, while others target mental health issues. Some IOPs provide consultations with psychiatrists, while others do not. When choosing a PHP or IOP, it is important to make sure that the program matches the issues that you are trying to resolve.
